When it comes to Christmas time, it’s not that I don’t enjoy it. Of course I love spending time with my family, silly festive telly and good food and drink. It’s just I don’t feel the excitement they way most people do. I don’t burst into overjoyed tears when the new John Lewis advert comes on or scream about Starbucks’ new wintery drinks. In fact, I moan a little bit when I hear a Christmas song in November or when I see decorations already in the shops. It all just seems a little bit too early for me. I feel there’s a time and place for Christmas excitement, and November is not it.
There is, of course, one exception to this Grinch-like Christmas spirit (or rather lack thereof) – the Lush Christmas range.
I was overjoyed when I heard my Christmas-season-only favourite was back in October; good old Snow Fairy shower gel. I won’t lie, the thought crossed my mind – but it’s only October, it’s time for Pumpkins and Skeletons and all that is spooky, not shower gel that smells like sweets and joy and angels themselves. But when it comes to Snow Fairy, my grumpy, cynical façade is broken.
I went into my nearest Lush just for a bottle of this sweet glittery nectar but came out with another Christmas treat – the Magic Wand.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Lush bath bombs, but as a recovering student they come with a little too heavy a price tag to justify their one use wonder. The Magic Wand, however, breaks this rule. Instead of dropping this product in the bath you wave it in the water, allowing you to use it multiple times. It also has the benefit of turning the water a lovely bubbly pink and filling your bathroom with a Snow Fairy-esque fragrance.
Once in the water yourself you realise that this product doesn’t just come with an undeniably sweet fragrance and sugary colouring, it turns the water a luxuriously silky texture which leaves your skin soft to the touch.
Although £5.25, it’s multiple use ability allows me to buy it guilt free for myself and would make a great stocking filler for my family or friends this Christmas. Next on my wish list is the Santa bath bomb, this also has a sweet, Snow Fairy-like smell and changes colour from red to green once fizzing in the water. If I could find that under my tree this year I’d be a happy girl.
